Facilitator Training & Development

Serving Emerging, Established and Evolving Challenge Course Programs and Practitioners ©

A well-trained and experienced facilitator can program for days with just his or her bare hands and a few props. A facilitator with technical training and a list of rules will "run out" of challenge course elements in a day.

Training is what shows a challenge course for the tool it is and makes the difference between a fast "event-oriented" day and a thought-provoking facilitation. The selection, training, and supervision of staff will be the most important factor in establishing a safe, quality and ethical program at your site.

How much training is enough?

Experience is a great teacher, but an initial training and demonstration of mastery will set the learning horizon for new facilitators. Every facilitator should have formal training that consists of an initial "participant experience" followed by technical skills and facilitation training. For the unexpected, one or more of the facilitators at any facility should have advanced technical and rescue training. After some experience, facilitators should receive advanced training in facilitation and program development.

Workshops and Training Opportunities

Leahy & Associates, Inc., provides training for all levels of practice including new facilitators, the development of critical technical skills and the powerful Art of Facilitation.

The workshops initiate the development of comprehensive technical skills, ethical facilitation skills and a deep awareness of risk management and judgment.
